Listings[edit]

Hello JembeQueen, thank you for your valuable contribution on Senegal. We appreciate your valuable contributions. To answer your question, yes, we do want/appreciate other people to have more information at Dakar. However, we have to delete some of your contribution because it's not exactly in line with some of our policies about listings. E.g., you need to post listing about "see", "do", and "sleep" in separate sections, and follow different formats. We are sorry about the confusions for you. We hope you can spare some time to read through our policies about listings, quick contribution guide, tips for new contributors, how to edit a page and other policies to make better edit and to contribute more information for the Wikitravellers around the world. We are looking forward to your new/proper posts. Thank you! (I'm sorry I need to delete your complaint in the article as well.) If you need help, check out Wikitravel:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. Thanks! --Binbin (talk) 20:45, 18 August 2013 (EDT)

Hello, I just noticed your comment in the Travellers Pub. I moved your comment to the Senegal talk page and replied there, but I will add my repsonse here too, just in case. We appreciate your contributions, let us know if we can help.Adzas (talk) 19:27, 18 August 2013 (EDT)

Comment[edit]

I have had a post deleted from a Senegal page saying it's in the wrong category. There is no category for 'sleep' - I spent 2 days looking at everything before 'plunging ahead' and then getting deleted. JembeQueen (talk) 11:16, 18 August 2013 (EDT)

Hello JembeQueen, thank you for your comment. Just to let you know that your information about the B&B has not been deleted, it was removed from the Senegal page by an administrator and added to the Dakar page, as it appears the B&B is in Dakar, we post the listings in the actual places where they are located, and only post a listing once. The rest of the information was removed by an administrator today, as it was all posted again and it was a mixture of information (Do, Sleep, Go) so the admin left you a message to ask you to read the Listing Policies and try to rewrite the information. We greatly appreciate your contributions and we are just here to help you to follow our policies and guidelines. If you have any specific questions about the Senegal Article, please let us know here on the Discussion page. Anything else in general in the Traveller´s Pub or on the Talk page of anyone who left you a message. Thanks again, I hope you will continue to contribute, let me know if I can help! Hello again!
Ok, this is the deal. I got a note from Bin Bin who said I posted in the wrong place, it needs to go in the 'sleep' section. Apparently she/he was unaware that there was no sleep section on the Senegal page.
Initially I did a search for Dakar, Senegal and there is no page for Dakar, Senegal. I saw that the Senegal page was a little 'light' so I posted there and it was removed.
So then I 'plunged ahead!'
I just did a search for Dakar, Senegal and got this message:
"There were no results matching the query.
Create the page "Dakar, Senegal" on this wiki!"
But you are saying it's in the 'Dakar' section, I missed it. I assumed you would have everything listed by city/country as many countries have cities with the same name (like Georgia in the former Soviet Union and Georgia in the United States).
Ok, so now I am looking at Dakar and it is there but in the wrong section. We should be in the budget priced section. So I have changed the section and it is posted in the same & style/manner as the other I think. Hopefully you will think so too! JembeQueen (talk) 09:57, 19 August 2013 (EDT)
Hey Jembe! My name is IBAlex and I will try to explain everything here:
  • Your listing was reverted from Senegal page because we add listings to the city articles (not countries or regions). And if it is a huge city, we add it to the city districts. There are 2 reasons why we do it this way. First of all, this help us keep our guides organized. Second of all, it just makes more sense. Try to imagine a tourist who wants to go to Dakar and looks for a nice places to stay. Most probably, he would search under "Dakar hotel" or "Dakar sleep" and come across our Dakar article, not Senegal. That's why the listing should be added to Dakar article. Does it make sense?
  • Try to always use just city names as the key words when you search for articles. For example "Paris" or "Dakar" as this would give you better results on Wikitravel.
  • When there are several places under the same name we should create disambiguation pages that will help users navigate on Wikitravel and not get confused:) Have a look what you get when you type Georgia in the search box on Wikitravel...disambiguation page!
I hope that everything what I wrote will help you better understand Wikitravel. I know that at the beginning it might be confusing but believe me it's fun to edit a wiki! We would love to see more contributions from you! Please plunge forward! Let me know if you have some questions, I would gladly answer all of them! IBAlex (talk) 20:30, 19 August 2013 (EDT)
