Additional languages[edit]

I was wondering whether it would be possible to include more languages. I think that German would be a good choice since this would allow me to write in my native language and besides Germans like travelling a lot and would make more use of Wikitravel. Furthermore, Spanish seems important enough and is one of my favourite foreign languages having lived in Spain for a while. cyril2000

Yes, it's absolutely possible. We have a language version policy for how we start new language versions. You may want to try and start a Wikitravel:German Wikitravel Expedition. --Evan 19:51, 8 Mar 2004 (EST)

Wechselbot[edit]

Evan, Pierre's proposal for a so-called Wechselbot gave me an idea that takes this a step further. If you have time, could you have a look at it? Thanks. BTW, thanks for your input on my tests with navigation bars. DhDh 13:50, 6 Mar 2004 (EST)

Can you set up a test Wikitravel? I downloaded pywikipediabot and I'm likely to completely mess things up while adapting it for Wikitravel. -phma 09:08, 26 Mar 2004 (EST)

Article[edit]

CM Focus? Cool! So I guess you were in London to meet with folks from the ark group? I did a presentation for them on WHO and Bricolage last november, and am going to give a workshop for them in A'dam in a couple of weeks. I love it when travel pays! Anyhow, congrats to you and MAJ on the publication! -- Mark 15:44, 6 Mar 2004 (EST)

Thanks for the congratulations. Umm... It's probably not anybody's business, but we didn't actually get paid for the article. I didn't even get a subscription, so I don't know what the edited article really looks like. Trust me, neither I nor Maj wrote that we were "masterminds".
We actually didn't meet them in London -- we were doing research for a non-travel-related book. But that's excellent that you're working with them, though. They seem like great folks. --Evan 17:10, 6 Mar 2004 (EST)

arch[edit]

Can you set up an arch server? I'd like to put my map program up for others to try out and maybe make improvements to. -phma 17:40, 7 Mar 2004 (EST)

Yes. There's a (read-only) server up now at http://arch.wikitravel.org/contrib for contributed software. I just sent you info on the writeable interface. Let me know if you have any questions. --Evan 15:47, 10 Mar 2004 (EST)
Hey! Coolness. I'll do a checkin (or whatever the concept is under arch) tonight or tomorrow after I read the docs. -- Mark 16:54, 10 Mar 2004 (EST)

E-mail[edit]

Re: Please send me e-mail. Done. DhDh 15:37, 8 Mar 2004 (EST)

Yep. Did you get my reply? --Evan 15:41, 8 Mar 2004 (EST)

I did. Did you?

BTW, I wanted to ask you something: is it possible to change user names and keep the user contributions? I've been using "Dhum Dhum" as a nick for a few years now (not only at Wikitravel), and honestly, I've grown a bit tired of it. I was thinking of changing it into something I could use only for Wikitravel: Akubra (probably no surprise?). Anyway, it's no big deal, but if it's not difficult to change, then let me know. Thanks. DhDh 16:10, 8 Mar 2004 (EST)

Well, there's no easy way to do it, actually. I think the best you can do is start a new user account, and add a #REDIRECT to your user and user talk pages to the new versions... I think I _might_ be able to change everything edited by User:Dhum Dhum to User:Akubra, but I'd be worried to miss anything. Sorry, not a very helpful answer. B-) --Evan 16:13, 8 Mar 2004 (EST)

Thanks for the hint, Evan. At first sight it seems to work. The only thing I couldn't move are the mighty administrator powers User:Dhum Dhum had :-( Could you switch them to User:Akubra? Thanks a lot! Akubra 16:39, 8 Mar 2004 (EST)

I seem to have all the necessary goodies again. Dhum Dhum won't need them anymore. Cheers! Akubra 01:55, 9 Mar 2004 (EST)

This is strange but useful. I like wiki's but I still think the design is not pleasing to the eye, at least my eyes... Hope you are well Evan! Nice to see you on my blog Biella

Hi, Biella! Sorry you're not crazy about the site design -- we're still in the process of trying to make it better. Hope things are well with you. --Evan 19:52, 8 Mar 2004 (EST)

Bold Terms[edit]

See my talk page for an answer to your question about bolding the first appearance of the title of an article. It is mostly a WikiPedia thing. Huttite 03:49, 12 Mar 2004 (EST)

Yann for Admin[edit]

It's been seven days, so don't Forget! -phma 23:30, 13 Mar 2004 (EST)

Thanks. I did forget, actually, but now it's all set up. --Evan 11:06, 14 Mar 2004 (EST)

Reporter[edit]

Do you know when the reporter from the Times is supposed to contact us? Just wondering, I haven't heard anything since I sent you my email address. --Dawnview 11:38, 15 Mar 2004 (EST)

Nope. I asked a few people, and sent addresses and names, and we'll see. Sorry, no more info right now! --Evan 13:27, 15 Mar 2004 (EST)

Meetup[edit]

Hey, I'm going to be in Montreal the week of March 29. Do you and Maj want to meet up? --Dawnview 23:40, 18 Mar 2004 (EST)

Absolutely! There are a couple of places I want to try for meetup space... What's your week like? --Evan 00:52, 19 Mar 2004 (EST)
Excellent. Right now my week is open. My plan is to arrive in the afternoon of the 29, and leave the afternoon of April 1. Any time in between is fine. Pick a place and time and I'll see you there. --Dawnview 09:18, 19 Mar 2004 (EST)
Hey Evan, have you thought of a place to meet next week? --Dawnview 11:35, 26 Mar 2004 (EST)
Augh! I can't believe it! You're leaving tomorrow! Maybe you have time for brunch or coffee? --Evan 22:47, 31 Mar 2004 (EST)

Admin nomination[edit]

Evan, I've just nominated User:Huttite for admin status. Please have a look at Wikitravel:Administrator nominations. Dhum Dhum Akubra 11:04, 24 Mar 2004 (EST)

  • Thank you for considering me as an administrator. Respectfully, I feel I must decline the nomination at this time. - Huttite 05:59, 25 Mar 2004 (EST)

Delete Articles[edit]

This one is redundant: http://www.wikitravel.org/en/article/Red_Rocks_Amphitheatre - it's so short, I just moved the relevant info back to Denver.

Cant find where to report articles, it's too late at night and I'd rather be productive before I head for bed. ;)

- Nils 20:42, 25 Mar 2004 (EST)

No problem. For future reference, see Deletion policy. Votes for deletion is where you link to deletable articles. --Evan 20:46, 25 Mar 2004 (EST)

Miscellaneous[edit]

Thank you for your welcome! I'll try to make some useful contributions. Bye
