From Wikitravel
[edit] General
- Evan, refer Colorado - should the National Parks have separate pages? Some of these are currently dead-end. You seem to go that route but others have listed that kind of thing with "typical newbie" comments.
- For subpages, there doesn't seem to be anything in the help file. To go to a subpage you use a/b but how do you get the <a construct at the top of the subpage b?
- I want to disambig "Ireland" but when someone says "near Ireland" how do I refer to both "Republic of Ireland" and "Northern Ireland"?

So, my take:
- Colorado is on the list of Wikitravel:articles needing attention. Also, national parks should have their own articles -- see Wikitravel:What is an article? for details. Can you let me know who thinks we shouldn't have them?
- Sorry, National Parks was a bad example. Wineglass Bay is an example. It's not a National Park but a beach. It's listed as needing attention. So it should not have its own page?
- No, Wikitravel:subpages doesn't exist. I'll try to get it started. The "< a" thing should happen automagically. Can you give me an example where it isn't?
- Tried this. It inserts the link after you save it. I was just looking at the edit page!
- Well, I'd say that we should either correct the statement "near Ireland" or have a teensy-weensy article for Ireland, the island.
- Have a look at the disambiguation pages (Special pages/Maintainance). There are two examples there.
I'll try to jump in on the talk pages for these issues.

[edit] Thumbnails
Hi Evan, Thumbnails for image still do not work. Please fix them. Yann 05:47, 7 Jun 2004 (EDT)
- I'll give it a shot. Do you know what it requires? MediaWiki version, external libraries/tools? --Evan 10:09, 7 Jun 2004 (EDT)
- JeLuF said that the version 1.2.6 is recommended. BTW, MediaWiki messages (i.e. {{msg:bouchon}}) do not work either. Yann 17:24, 7 Jun 2004 (EDT)
- You should use the latest version of the 1.2 series, which is 1.2.6, to get thumbnails and msg's. Or wait a week or two and switch directly to 1.3, which will provide links in thumbnails and a template namespace, separating MediaWiki-messages from user contributed messages. Categories are also added in 1.3. And a lot of bug fixes, as well as wonderful new bugs. -- JeLuF

[edit] Wikitravel mentioned in Linux Magazine
There is an article on Mediawiki in the May edition of Linux Magazine (UK). The article is mostly about setting up the software and how a wiki functions, but Wikitravel is mentioned in a box with other wikis running the software. (I haven’t seen this mentioned any place else, and I didn't know where else to put it, so I put it here.) Eivind 15:54, 9 Jun 2004 (EDT)
