Hello! Welcome to Wikitravel. To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page.

I've changed the formatting on the Alton guide. Please be sure to check out the Manual of style to understand how we format things. When it comes to accommodation listings & restaurants, it is preferable to list them by price (Budget, Mid-range, Splurge). However, in the case of Alton, the listings are lacking that information, so alphabetical is probably the best choice.

You may also want to look at our guidelines for business owners/employees. Although it says:

Don't list the same place many times. Yes, your guesthouse may have a restaurant, a bar, an internet cafe and a dance show, but so does everybody else's, which is why you need to pick one of "See", "Eat", "Drink", "Sleep" and "Contact" to slot it under. That said, exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis if, for example, a hotel has a famous, separately named bar or restaurant that also draws significant numbers of non-resident customers.

I don't believe that listing the Beall Mansion in the "Do" section as well as the "Sleep" section is an issue, as a tour of the historic home is obviously separate from sleeping there. However, the Beall Mansion should only be listed once in the "Sleep" section. If you believe there is a legitimate reason to list the same place more than once in the "Sleep" section, please bring the issue up on Alton's talk page.

Thanks for your contributions to Alton and the St. Louis area. If you need any help, check out Wikitravel:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. -- Fastestdogever 15:12, 16 May 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Photos

I think you've done a great job with the Alton page - I appreciate the way you've tried to give travelers a complete experience through listings for bars, restaurants, and attractions other than your hotel. Thanks! To enhance the page even further, you might consider uploading a photo or two - I would think that you could use a photo of your hotel under 'See' or 'Sleep' - as long as you're willing to license it license it to be used.
