I'm planning to get out and explore the wide, wide world in the near future. Editing Wikitravel entries allows me to collect notes on potential destinations in a convenient spot, and as a bonus the mistakes I make might just fix themselves! (with a little help from you...)
My notion is to use an extended vacation and savings go some places that are relatively cheap in U.S. dollars (a much reduced list from a few years ago...) and perhaps to stay awhile somewhere. I'm looking for areas free of malaria because the idea of plugging up my cellular excretion mechanisms is nerve-wracking: I know a couple who went to Costa Rica for a week and had a fine time and their ears are still ringing years later from the mefloquine they took... I'm first thinking of Hawaii and/or Fiji, and just maybe even going the whole hog with Australia, Mauritius and a quick crossing of Europe. Of course, the trick is settling on exactly where I want to go, what I can do, and how much flexibility I can retain, without paying a fortune!
