Hi, Maj! Welcome to Wikitravel! You can find out more about Wikitravel on the Wikitravel:About page. If you have any questions or comments about how Wikitravel works, post a message at the travellers' pub. I hope you enjoy helping us build a free, complete, up-to-date and reliable travel guide! -- Evan 07:51, 4 Aug 2003 (PDT)
So, I finally got a start on Black Rock City, although it's as-of-yet still larval. I plan to outline the ideas of Burning Man in the "Understand" section, but I need some help with "See" and "Do". Any help or comment greatly appreciated. -- Evan 12:03, 7 Oct 2003 (PDT)
So, I keep seeing places where you put a link in to an article for US cities in the form "City name, State name". I think by the article naming conventions they should either be :
I realize that the "City name, State name" form is the most common in the United States, and I could be convinced that it's better to use a form people are more familiar with. My only counterarguments are:
I've been changing the places I see "City name, State name" to one of the other forms when I find it. If you think this is wrong, let's wrestle it out on the naming conventions page. -- Evan 11:57, 29 Oct 2003 (PST)
Hey, don't worry. I figure we should be as kissy-face as possible on Wikitravel. AH WUB OO SNOOKUMS! -- Evan 16:37, 10 Nov 2003 (PST)
OK, so Cardiff's in Wales
Fine! Be that way.
Hey, so, could you take a look at the colors on Main page/test page? It'd be nice to make them a bit different from Wikipedia's, and also if they went with the default theme we have, it'd be excellent. -- Evan 15:12, 27 Nov 2003 (PST)
Ugh. Sorry about the loss of "Destinations" on the front page -- it was actually my idea! Anyways, maybe you could try putting something back in? See one suggestion on Talk:Main Page/New layout. I gotta run to the bank before the guys get here! --Evan 14:34, 1 Dec 2003 (PST)
Good work on the Nepali phrasebook. Ek, chin, dvi didn't sound right so I switched them around - is that right? I don't know much Nepali, or Hindi or Gujarati, but I can count.
Can you type Nagari? You might want to put the Nagari spelling of the Nepali words in the phrasebook. I am going to put the Greek and Hebrew letters on those phrasebooks, once UTF8 is up.
Are you as crazy as your name implies? -phma 20:29, 6 Dec 2003 (PST)
OK, so you moved my list of Seattle districts to a talk page as "not useful". Would you care to say what, in your view would make it useful? I'm not sure how it is any less useful than lists of districts for many other cities. -- Jmabel 19:30, 31 Dec 2003 (PST)
So, could you take a look at the Wikitravel:Script policy? I think it's probably a good start, but I'd like your opinion.
I did a first script nomination, for a script to check and fix spelling errors. See Wikitravel:Script nominations for details, and voice your support if you think it's a good idea. --Evan 21:41, 10 Jan 2004 (EST)
phma for admin
Hey, do you think that [User:Joe|Joe] is the same person as [User:188.8.131.52]? I noticed a request on one of the help pages for emailed! assistance with the use of his user profile. Since he wanted it emailed to a hotmail address it made me think it might be the same person as our mystery IP vandal. Anyhow, Joe doesn't have a welcome, and I don't want to step on admin toes by adding it. ;) -- Mark 04:31, 14 Jan 2004 (EST)
Hey, so, you should check out the Wikitravel:Main Page policy. When you add stuff to the front page, you should put it at the beginning of the list for the section it's in, and take the one of the end of the list. They're supposed to be ordered from newest to oldest. --Evan 11:25, 22 Jan 2004 (EST)
Thanks, I hope to get some time to add more! Fuzheado 00:11, 30 Jan 2004 (EST)
Meeting in London
Do you and Evan want to meet up in London while you're over here? I'd be pleased to say hi while you're over here, and recommend some unusual things to see in the city... Is there an official Wikipedian meet? - MykReeve 17:12, 9 Feb 2004 (EST)
Congrats on another published article!
Good job! It's super to see the world recognizing you as a real CM expert, considering the huge role you played in making bricolage and its predicessors. -- Mark 15:47, 6 Mar 2004 (EST)
When you do get down to 'Godzone', maybe we could have an Antipodes conference! --Nzpcmad 04:22, 26 Jun 2004 (EDT)
Meeting in Montréal
I signed up at Meetup and voted for Casa del Popolo too although I shan't be free for sure on 19 July. So depending on how many people you expect to show up I let you decide whether I'm important enough to have you guys change the date. As a matter of fact my July will be quite busy as my family is visiting from France, and I know you're leaving in August. Err... My telephone number is in my profile. :-) --Valmi 17:41, 29 Jun 2004 (EDT)
Maj: Thanks for comments/edits of the Dakar page. I guess a RTFMoS would have been appropriate. I can't believe you removed the part about the French though :). Is this user talk page the apprpriate medium/way to communicate stuff like this?
I read through the copyright notes and explanations, but one thing is still unclear - maybe you can help. All wikitravel content is licensed under a CC license. But who is the copyright holder? Is it wikitravel (which is what?) or the individual authors? If I decided to publish a book with my collected travel musings (note: this is a hypothetical question, I am interested in copyright issues - no need to insult my writing just now), but I had already posted some of it to wikitravel, could I still license the original (before you edit it beyond recognition - joke!) as my content? NOTE: For those interested in Maj's answer, it's in my talk page ... Iphilipp
I noticed the pictures you uploaded are in BMP format -- this is an uncompressed and terribly inefficient way of storing picture data. Could you convert them to JPG? Jpatokal 21:41, 25 Jul 2004 (EDT)
Yeah, sorry, I know my image-fu sucks. I don't have any software handy for doing anything useful. I was hoping it I got the image up someone would take it from there, but maybe they're more trouble than their worth... Majnoona 23:39, 25 Jul 2004 (EDT)
Hello and thanks for the welcoming, I've been using Wikipedia for about six months and enjoy every minute of it even though it has turned into somekind of job nowadays. I'm looking foward to start the Swedish Wikitravel soon Wikitravel:Swedish_Wikitravel_Expedition.//softssa 16:09, 10 Aug 2004 (EDT)
There's an image on the French Wikitravel whose name begins "Image:Image:", and Quirk and Yann agree it should be deleted, but there's no link to delete it. Can you delete it directly? -phma 09:52, 21 Sep 2004 (EDT)
Hello. If I guess it right (see user talk:grin) you deleted the content of a page from the wiki (with history) without saving its contents to anywhere. Since the original page contained infos impossible to recreate, I think you shouldn't be overly satisfied. Just wanted you to know. (As you may have noticed I am not regularly checking wikitravel, but this does not mean I would agree throwing out anything I wrote. On the wikis I am active it's not customary to throw away valuable information, so I reckon I would restrict myself editing there.) (answer, if any, on my talk page, thanks.) Bestest regards: --grin 12:52, Oct 5, 2004 (EDT)
