Haven La chance Desert Hotel is a modern, comfortable hotel in Hassi Lybed, 4 km from Merzouga, owned by an American woman and a Berber man. They also run a tour company specialised in organising tours to and around Morocco.
Merzouga is a rendezvous point for visits to the Erg chebbi sand dunes, the biggest erg (dune field) in Morocco. The local population are mostly Berbers, long-term inhabitants of this region, who pre-date the arabs.
