Guaka is Kasper Souren, born in the Netherlands. hitchhiking and surfing couches in Europe, South and North America, Oceania and Asia. Besides this, Guaka is Wikimaniac and likes learning languages. While in Mali he founded and funded the Bambara Wikipedia, and is administrator of some other wikis based on MediaWiki, e.g. about hitchhiking, dumpster diving. He's also involved in website consultancy (making websites for a small furniture business and more very specific ones such as this one about teak tables, and one directed at the German speaking market).
He believes in the principles of free software and copyleft, though he won't install Debian GNU/Linux on every computer he touches. Oh, and beware, he believes that rulers, hierarchical organization, and systems of coercion are unnecessary and should be abolished.
Formerly he was blogging at industree.org/guaka/blog
 Stance on Wikitravel
Kasper has requested database dumps a long long time ago. So he was happy to find out about WV, that does offer database dumps for download. WV has successfully forked the German Wikitravel, and it is in the hands of a non-profit organization (unlike Wikitravel, which is owned by Internet Brands, a for-profit company).
He started the CouchSurfing wiki in August 2006. He became very involved in CouchSurfing, was tech team coordinator for a while, was trying to move towards an open source codebase. In May 2007, when things didn't seem to work out anymore he and others started a site to create change: OpenCouchSurfing. So if you're a CouchSurfer, think twice before you get verified (which is merely a form of donation). Also, try BeWelcome instead, it's not as big but it's based on free software.
