Upolu is one of Samoa's major islands.

Many Samoans subscribe to Christianity , although a small amount of Samoans are now following the Baha'i faith which has a temple in Tipapata, in the heart of Upolu Island.

Apia is the heart of Upolu. A modernised city, with history backing up this city with a population over 30,000.

You must visit Lalomanu (Aliepata) which has beautiful beaches and sights of small idylic islands in its path. Nearby is a beautiful waterfall named, Tiave'a.

Be respectful whilst traveling around the villages and the quiet outskirts of Upolu.

The Samoan language is widely used, but these days many Samoan residents can speak basic English.

Old Traditional buses are a must do. They are quite cheap, but can be uncomfortable. You can also hire cars from Apia for less then 50 Tala a day.

Great surfing off the coast near the Salani Resort and also visit Vailima village, with their beautiful cascading falls. Lake Lanoto, which is known to be a lake, which has no lake floor and it also holds beautiful, rare and massive gold fish.

Umu is a must have. Traditional food can be purchased from Apia. You can also visit the only fast food outlet in Samoa, McDonalds, which is located on Centre Road Apia.

It is recommended that you drink Vailima in abundance and bottled water, for your safety.

Do not travel alone at night, and stay with people you know and trust. Dogs are a safety problem in Samoa. While many are kept as pets, they are far from domesticated and will likely attack you. This is a serious issue when travelling in Samoa and should be considered when arranging transportation.
