Tropea is a small medieval city in Calabria in Italy. The city is hanging on the cliffs over viewing the sea and the Stromboli volcano.

Get in[edit]

Tropea has a train station in the center of town. There are also buses that go to Rome with many stops along the way several times per week in the summer.

Get around[edit]

The center of town is easy to walk around. The large beaches are accessed by ramps and staircases. The smaller of the two beaches has most intense waves.

Tropea is famous for its beaches, which can get quite full with mostly Italian tourists from the North.



Calabrese - hot peppers from the region Cipolla rossa di Tropea - sweet red onions, the sweetness comes from a unique microclimate in the region. Can be found in any market. Restaurants often have pizza alle cipolle with the onions fried on top. Seafood
