Tra Vinh is a city in Southern Vietnam.
There are direct (mini)buses from HCMC. Another option is to arrive by boat. You can either charter a private boat or get on a cargo boat from another town or city in the Mekong delta, such as Ben Tre. The boat trip from Ben Tre takes about five hours and should cost around 100,000 VND per person. The boats leave at around 9am.
The centre itself is small enough to cover on foot. You can explore the greater area by renting a bike from the tourist office or via some hotels. The tourist office also sells a map (20.000VND, January 2012) that covers both the city and the province of Tra Vinh.
There's a large local market in the center of town, selling clothing and food. The city also has some Khmer pagodas.
Explore the centre on foot, or rent a bike to see the province of Tra Vinh. The beach side supposed to be one of the nicest in the Mekong Delta.
A place to rent motorbikes is located on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai 42B (about 5-10 minute walk from the centre). The shop is called Nguyet. Price for a decent automatic is 200,000 VND, manual is 100,000 - 150,000 VND. (January 2012)
There are some affordable hotels in the center.
The bus station is about five kilometres out of town. A taxi out there should cost in the region of 55,000 VND.
There's a bus to Can Tho on or just after 11am. Tickets cost 60,000 VND and the trip takes about three hours.
