Near the main highway between Rio de Janeiro (110 km) and Belo Horizonte, Três Rios can make a nice stop-over, also if you are visiting Petrópolis.

• Three daily buses to São Paulo, 6,5 hours, R$ 60-90, by Cometa[1].
• Buses every other hour to Rio de Janeiro, 2 hours, R$ 29, by Salutaris[2]

Just outside town, where the three rivers meet, there is a rustic hotel offering white water rafting. The hotel's surroundings are the habitat of a number of peculiar animals, including many large birds, confiscated by the government wildlife agency and let to live in this area.
