Tirur [1] (sometimes written Tanur) is a town in the Malappuram district of Kerala, India. The town is located 43 km south of Kozhikode. It is a major trading centre of fish and betel and is known as the birth place of the poet Thunchath Ezhuthachan.

- The nearest major airport is at Kozhikode (Calicut) which is only 51km by road from Tirur.

- If you are collecting a hire car at Kozhikode airport, it should take less than an hour to drive to Tirur. Take the NH213 to Malappuram, then the SH71 to Tirur. If you are driving from Kozhikode city take the main NH17 coast road south for approximately 40km, then turn right onto the SH71 to Tirur.

- Thunchan Parambu, (1.5km from Tirur railway station). Birth place of the great poet Thunchath Ezhuthachan, considered as the "Father of the Malayalam Literature". This is the site of the annual Thunchan Utsavam literary festival, which takes place in the first week of February. edit
