Thiruchenkattankudi historical name is Ganapatheesaram. Thiruchenkattankudi village in Thiruvarur district, Tamilnadu India is famous for the 1000-2000 years old Vathapi Ganapathy Temple. It is one of the Padal petra shiva sthalams. The Chola General Paranjothi saw this Vinayaka, worshipped this lord, won the war and brought the idol here from Vatapi, the Chalukya capital. The main diety is Lord Shiva called as Ganapatheeswarar, Uthrabatheeswarar, Aathvanadhar, Manthirapureeswarar, Baskarapureeswar, or Pasupateshwarar and the Godesses or Ambal is Soolligammbal.The temple pond or tank or Theertham is Satya Theertham, Surya Theertham, Chandra Theertham, Agni Theertham, Indra Theertham, Emma Theertham, Varuna Theertham Sthala Vruksham , the temple tree is Atthi or Kattathi . Lord Uthara Pasupatheeswarar adores the temple from a shrine having its own Vimana on the right side of the presiding deity Ganapatheeswarar. Gajamukasuran samharam was done by Lord Ganapathi here. He got bramahathi Dhosham,which is relieved here. So this place is also called as Ganpathiswaram. During the war with Gajamukasuran a rival, the blood shed out from Gajamukasuran’s body which made this place red. Chen means red ,kudi means place in Tamil, so this place is called Thiruchengattankudi. The famous Thirukannanpuram temple Divyadesam temple , Tirupugalur and Thirumarugal , Nanillam, Peralam, Thirunallar, Tittacheri etc are nearby places in 10km radius. Karaikal and Thiruvarur are cities not far away around 20 kilometers. Nearest Railway Station is Nannillam. Once part of Tamilnads old Chola country - South Cauvery, and presently in Nannillam circle of Thiruvarur District in Tamil Nadu India.
