Taoyuan County

Taoyuan County (桃園縣) is a county located in Northern Taiwan, adjacent to Taipei County in the north and Hsinchu County in the south. It is the home of Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, which serves Taipei. Regions Cities Taoyuan is the county seat and largest city of Taoyuan County. Dasi is a town of high tourism interest, including the mausoleum of former ruler Chiang Kai-shek, flower farms and an old street. Jhongli is the second largest city in Taoyuan County. Longtan is a town in southern Taoyuan County. It is where the most famous Reservoir in Taiwan, Shihmen Reservoir locates. Though it is the second most populated County in Taiwan, it is usually not a major target of travelers except for those with a overnight stopover at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. Get in By plane Everyone arrives at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (台灣桃園國際機場) begins their journey in Taoyuan County. However, it is surprisingly inconvenient if you just want to leave the airport. Comparing to the comfortable and frequent expressway buses that go to Taipei, there are only 2 local bus routes, one for Taoyuan and one for Jhongli. The buses departs 1~2 times per hour. They don't have a separate luggage space so it's quite a trouble if you are traveling with large luggages. The bus trip takes about 50 minutes, travelers who are in a hurry or don't like local bus services are advised to take taxi instead. By train TRA (台鐵) has a few stations in Taoyuan County. Every local train and most (but not all) express train stops at the county's two largest train stations: Taoyuan and Jhongli. Train is a convenient method to visit Taoyuan County when coming from other parts of Taiwan. Taoyuan County also has a High Speed Rail station. The station is remote from major settlements, but has free shuttle services to Taoyuan and Jhongli. Estimated travel time is 45 minutes to Taoyuan and 25 minutes to Jhongli. By bus Inter-city buses are available at Taoyuan and Jhongli. Some other cities can also be reached by express buses from Taipei. Traveling by bus in Taiwan is usually much cheaper than trains, but this may not be the case if you are coming from Taipei -- they are too close to each other. Get around Like many other places in Taiwan, every city and town in Taoyuan County can be reached by bus. However, English bus information almost doesn't exist. If you don't understand any Chinese, hiring a cab or renting a car may be your best bet.
