It's located 7 km northwest of city centre. There is one international route, with Paris-Orly. Domestic routes connects with most larger cities in Algeria. National road A1 from Algiers passes by Tamanrasset continuing until the border with Niger. However, after Ghardaia in central Algeria the quality of the road deteriorates, altough it's still paved. This road is also known as the Trans-Sahara Highway. To the south the road becomes almost undrivable with ordinary 2WD vehicles.
