So, is "City Centre" a proper name? --Evan 14:11, 27 Aug 2004 (EDT)

Probably not. (AFAIK The official names for the areas included are "West End", "Central Business District" and "Downtown Eastside") I suppose what your getting at is it should be moved to Vancouver/City Center (#&* American Spelling -- I hate that). But in accordance with the Policy I suppose that should be done. (I thought of it after I created it, but as it isn't exactly my favourite policy, I didn't bother changing it.)-- Webgeer 15:55, Aug 27, 2004 (EDT)
You got it right on. B-) Let's let it simmer for a while, and see how it comes out. I'm in no rush to change it -- I just noticed, and figured I should put a note here. --Evan 19:38, 27 Aug 2004 (EDT)

I think City Centre is ok, since most "downtown" areas in big cities have a similar title.

I would like to comment on the 'City Centre' name...no one actually uses that term. In Richmond maybe, but not Vancouver. It just referred to as the downtown area. Please don't use that either...You'll just look silly :) —The preceding comment was added by 24.85.136.113 (talkcontribs) .

OK, we have a map now. It still needs to have the annotations that match the guide added, but I want to wait till there are a few more entries in 'Drink'. Are there any more landmarks that should be added? I also plan to do a detail of Stanley Park, as I think there is enough interesting stuff there to warrant its own map, and it is something travellers will find useful. bulliver 09:18, 1 March 2006 (EST) Bold text

[edit] Vancouver Library

Maybe this was an impressive library 20 years ago, but newer ones, in Montreal and Seattle for example, have set a new standard in central libraries. I removed the ridiculously arrogant line about VPL being the most modern and impressive, as it is clearly not to anyone who has travelled even a little in this world. Vancouver - get over yourself...you are so over-rated!!!!! —The preceding comment was added by 24.84.52.80 (talkcontribs) 23:19, 2007 November 11.

[edit] Backpackers Inn dis-recommended

I want to record for reference that the Backpackers Inn hotel is dis-recommended: "The so-called Backpackers Inn, a dilapidated four-storey Victorian building at 7 West Hastings St., is a 42-room drug bazaar where, a number of anonymous sources allege, violent crimes regularly occur." ("BC's Worst Drug Hotel Is About to Empty Out", By Monte Paulsen, The Tyee.ca, March 20, 2008) We don't list this hotel, and we shouldn't add it. We list two other Vancouver hotels with the word "backpacker" in their name, and I want to be sure people don't accidentally visit this one instead. The MoS advises against giving bad places bad reviews, instead we should just leave them out of the guide. I'm comfortable with that, unless we start hearing that travellers are having trouble by accidentally going to this hotel. JimDeLaHunt 14:39, 20 March 2008 (EDT)
