Traffic is bad, but it's definitely not LA-like. Just a few minutes of a jam in downtown, but while you're sitting there, if you're in the Taos state of mind, you can people watch and window shop -- that activity may account for the press of traffic. Yeah, it can be a drag, but you're not in Taos to rush, are you? Anyway, traffic is mentioned several times, and although it is noticeably increased from 10 years ago, it's not that much of a MAJOR concern (one mention would do it).
