Chinese names[edit]

Hi; this article is looking great already! Could I ask that someone who is knowledgeable please add the correct Chinese names for both place and street names in parentheses? I've never had much success pronouncing the romanisations, and it was always easier just to point a local at the page containing the relevant location in Chinese, and it'd be easy to get directions. Thanks! (Dewet 05:52, 23 Dec 2004 (EST))

No rough areas[edit]

"Furthermore, despite its size, Taipei does not have any rough areas that are considered unsafe, even at night - which in itself is attractive."

Wow, that's amazing! Every town I've ever been to has some rough areas. Cool article! Thanks.

Taipei County/Taipei City[edit]

Taipei City is not in Taipei County. They are totally independant political entities. No one in Taiwan will say Taipei City, Taipei County. Even the admistrative headquaters for the county are not located in Taipei City, but in Banciao.

Me too. See Wikipedia's entry, complete with informative map. Jpatokal 23:33, 3 Jan 2006 (EST)
My error! Thanks for the correction. --Evan 23:38, 3 Jan 2006 (EST)
I don't care how this is organized, as long as the you stop making Taipei isIn Taipei (note the lack of disambiguation). -- The Commitee to Remove isIn Loops

Jing Hua City[edit]

I'd wager a fairly large amount that "京華城" is a shopping mall somewhere in Taipei, not an actual city, because that's what 城 usually means these days. No idea where it is though... Jpatokal 23:06, 4 July 2007 (EDT)

Yep, you are correct. In English it is called Core Pacific Living Mall and it is on 八德路四段138號. WindHorse 23:24, 4 July 2007 (EDT)

I have Firefox and I can't get this article to print. I tried making it shorter and it still didn't print. 02:39, 13 December 2007 (EST)

It does print in Internet Explorer. Except for the Chinese characters. If somebody knows how to load those fonts... DeepPurple 09:10, 15 December 2007 (EST) I found it : look for "language pack chinese" on and download the 'Simplified Chinese Language Pack'... DeepPurple 15:49, 21 December 2007 (EST)

  • For Taiwan you need the Traditional Chinese Language Pack, not Simplified. 09:10, 5 January 2008 (EST)

no gushing?[edit]

What does "No gushing needed" mean? Gbleem 23:30, 29 December 2007 (EST)

Out of curiosity, why do you ask? --Peter Talk 15:33, 30 December 2007 (EST)

Food pictures[edit]

I added pictures of Taiwanese night market food from the food list. But I don't have them all, so if someone else is living near a Taiwanese night market, please go there, have a good snack and take a picture of it for our fellow travelers. SuperMidget 11:07, 28 August 2008 (EDT)

Hi SuperMidget. The pictures are great but I've noticed that the amount of pictures has caused the Taipei article to be formatted funny, its too large for the page. Also noticed that a lot of images aren't appearing in the article. Is someone able to fix them? Or let me know how I can assist? Thanks. --MarinaK 19:14, 22 October 2008 (EDT)MarinaK.

I've fixed the broken images (that was an embarrassing quantity!) and I agree that there may be a few too many food images. We tend to avoid galleries in Wikitravel articles, so we should remove the gallery and pick just a couple images from there to illustrate the eat section. --Peter Talk 19:27, 22 October 2008 (EDT)
Thanks for that Peter! --MarinaK 20:19, 27 October 2008 (EDT)MarinaK.

Hi, I deleted this hotel- The Peninsula Hotel Taipei as I could not find any information on it to write a review. --MarinaK 20:54, 30 October 2008 (EDT)MarinaK.

Good Idea,. keep smiling, Edmontonenthusiast 21:49, 30 October 2008 (EDT)

I deleted this hotel- * The St. Regis Hotel Taipei as I could not find any info on it to garner a review. --MarinaK 19:16, 31 October 2008 (EDT)MarinaK.

Duplicate Listing - Request Deletion[edit]

In the Hostels secion of Sleep, Amigo Hostel is listed twice. Could someone clean it up by deleting the shorter, less informative of the two listings? I would do it myself, but I work for one of the other hostels, so I'm not supposed to ever edit or delete listings for competitors.

"Taipei City administers twelve districts (區). This article covers the downtown districts only. For other areas please see their specific articles". Thisn is a bit of a strange set-up for a city. Anyone has an idea how to better manage the districts? --globe-trotter 22:19, 24 November 2010 (EST)

I made a start by turning downtown's official districts into Wikitravel districts. It's a good start, but changes are necessary, I think. Large swathes of Xinyi, Daan and Songshan could be merged to become the Eastern District [1] (east of Fuxing Road). I'm not sure what to do with the other districts though — if we merge them as Old Taipei (or West Taipei), we'd have only two downtown districts which seems a bit scanty. --globe-trotter 11:56, 14 October 2011 (EDT)

Bugs below Eat section[edit]

Can someone fix the bugs below the Eat Section "Sleep" "Contact", seems like there are some problems there.

Done. There was an unclosed drink tag. Thanks for pointing it out - Ravikiran 01:50, 31 December 2010 (EST)

Grand Hotel image[edit]

Is this truly an iconic building in Taipei? It looks at most of passing interest to me, but it's not so obviously of no architectural interest that I would summarily delete it. So, what do you all think? Keep or remove the image in the article? Ikan Kekek 21:45, 31 October 2011 (EDT)

Well, the hotel is described in the See section as a sight, so on the premise of that it should stay. --globe-trotter 22:09, 31 October 2011 (EDT)
You're right. I wasn't thinking about the fact that it was in "See," not just "Sleep." Ikan Kekek 00:33, 1 November 2011 (EDT)

Hot springs area should be expanded in travel booklets by travel bureau (which can be picked up once you leave custom area of Taoyuan airport) - there are about 10 different hot springs available for visiting from Taipei, but article mentions only 3 of them
