Talk:Snowdonia Mountains
From Wikitravel
Perhaps this page should be renamed 'Snowdonia National Park', or just 'Snowdonia'. There is actually no such thing as the 'Snowdonia Mountains', as the name of a mountain range (as far as I'm aware anyway). While we're about it, do we have an index of the 'National Parks of England and Wales'? -- Nojer2 18:04, 5 Dec 2004 (EST)
- I agree (I think I started this page with a vague idea of the place... I was only there for like a day). Do we actually need both Snowdonia to include the towns in the area and Snowdonia National Park for the park part? And I think a national parks index isn't a bad idea, but what "England and Wales" and no the UK or just separate ones for England, Wales, Scotland, etc? I know the politics of names is tricky for this area... thanks! Majnoona 21:22, 5 Dec 2004 (EST)
- Oh yeah. I was thinking Scotland doesn't have national parks, but actually there were two created a couple of years ago, after they passed a new law in Scotland. So yes a new index page should include scotland (but not Ireland, since they dont have national parks). Hence it should probably be called 'National parks of the United Kingdom', but not sure what naming conventions apply to this.
- I don't think there should be two artices 'Snowdonia' and 'Snowdonia National Park' as you suggest, because Snowdonia is a national park. That's all it is. That's the reason the name exists. At least I think so. Have posed this question to the wikipeidians. I do know the national park area encompases the towns too (and means they have strict building regulations in fact), so 'national park' doesn't just mean public green park area. -- Nojer2 03:56, 6 Dec 2004 (EST)
- I was thinking of towns like http://www.llanberis.org/, if they're not "in" the park, where would you say they were? North Wales I guess? Let's just stick with Snowdonia National Park for now and link to the nearby towns in the get in / get out section... I'm going to check on how we do the indexes/lists for other things... thanks Majnoona 17:19, 6 Dec 2004 (EST)
