Talk:Manhattan/Greenwich Village

From Wikitravel
Jump to: navigation, search

The places currently listed under "See" and "Do" that are east of Broadway belong under "East Village." I am moving them there.

"It is important to note that the neighborhood to the West of Greenwich Village is not considered part of the Village itself, and is thus often called the West Village to differentiate itself from its eastern neighbor."

Huh? It's the "East Village" that is not part of Greenwich Village. "West Village" is synonymous with "Greenwich Village," as far as this native and essentially life-long Manhattanite is concerned. Unless someone can back up the quoted assertion, I will come back in a few days and delete it, perhaps replacing it with a remark that Greenwich Village is called the "West Village" to distinguish it from the "East Village."

OK, I looked at some articles in Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenwich_Village and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Village%2C_Manhattan) and discovered that at least some people consider "West Village" to refer only to that section of the Village that's west of 6th Av., but I deleted the claim that the "West Village" is not part of the Village. Historically and in the minds of this New Yorker and every other New Yorker I know, the West Village is the Village.

Washington Square Park is "the center of social life" for most West Village folks? That's news to me. I suppose some may be NYU students, but most of the people I see there appear to be tourists or day-trippers from other neighborhoods.--Beenthere 13:24, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

Walking tours listing[edit]

Per tour, walking tour listings are usually reverted when they are posted, for example, in the Hanoi, Sofia, and Riga guides. Why is this walking tour an exception? Ikan Kekek 16:09, 28 May 2012 (EDT)
