Talk:Lagos

Err... do we really need a disambig for this? Lagos (Nigeria) is the capital of Africa's largest country and the most populous city on the continent with over 10,000,000 people, Lagos (Portugal) I didn't know existed. Jpatokal 04:36, 29 Mar 2005 (EST)

Well it exists now, and I suspect that Lagos (Nigeria) was actually named after Lagos (Portugal). Unfortunately, the criteria for disambiguating famous places is rather vague. Besides the precedence for disambiguating famous places has already been set with New York (city). -- Huttite 05:22, 29 Mar 2005 (EST)
There's an explicit exception in the Wikitravel:Article naming conventions for cases like this, with Paris vs Paris (Texas) cited as the example. And New York city is disambigged because there's also New York (state), not because of New York (Lincolnshire). (And for what it's worth I think NY city should also be moved to New York City, but that's another kettle of fish...) Jpatokal 05:29, 29 Mar 2005 (EST)

I'd like to raise this up again -- I don't think Lagos, Nigeria (pop. 15 million and capital of Africa's largest country) is simply on the same scale as Lagos, Portugal (pop 15,000). Note that on Wikipedia Lagos also goes straight to the one in Nigeria. Jpatokal 02:55, 25 Nov 2005 (EST)

I think that Lagos does pass the much-more-famous criterion. --Evan 09:54, 25 Nov 2005 (EST)
