Template question[edit]

An anonymous user asked on my talk page: -- Huttite 21:27, 31 Dec 2005 (EST)

I recently created Ko Si Chang with an outline that I "made up" based on the size of the island (very small) and the outlines used in the articles for two nearby islands (Ko Samet/Ko Chang - both are much more touristic). You changed it to region template - some of the sections are definitely not applicable, is it OK for me to remove them?

If you have a look at the Wikitravel:Article templates you might be able come up with one that is a combination of say a Wikitravel:Region article template, Wikitravel:Small city article template and a Wikitravel:Park template. It would be OK to take out the Cities, Regions and Other destinations sections, though you should have an Eat and Sleep section. Also read Wikitravel:What is an article. If none of the templates fit, is it really worth an article? Can you find accommodation or similar place to sleep there? is a good test for an article. -- Huttite 20:49, 31 Dec 2005 (EST)
Has a good selection of places to sleep/eat, but has no regions or cities, or stuff like cars
I agree about removing Regions, Cities, Other destinations; Talk isn't really an issue, other to say that it's not really an issue; Itineraries - it's a one or two days at the most kind of place, so not really; Eat and Drink both probably warrant having Budget/Mid/Splurge; Get out can't say much except backtrack
Plunge forward, you know this place far better than I do. Write what you think will fit, expand the sections you need to. -- Huttite 22:08, 31 Dec 2005 (EST)
OK will do - one last quick question, helps me understand how to approach these things in the future - what about sections such as Talk and Stay Safe, where relatively speaking it's a non-issue locally, and the general/broader issues are covered at country-level? - OK to take them out? - They will do no harm so I'm leaving them in.
It is better to leave in sections that one may be uncertain about. For example Talk could simply assure that English is spoken by everyone, or no-one, or is even unnecessary because no-one is there to speak to. Stay safe is always good advice about the local hazards, which there will probably be at least one to mention for completeness. Even if it is just the address or telephone number of the Police station. -- Huttite 18:31, 1 Jan 2006 (EST)
