Talk:Home exchange

Don't know why the text for home exchange was removed and then redirected to hospitality exchange. Home exchange is not at all the same as hospitality exchange.
I've put back the text back and removed the redirect.
- I think I agree, these should be two articles. (ps -- please sign in and sign your comments using ~~~~ thanks!) Majnoona 16:51, 26 February 2006 (EST)
- Hmm, I'm not sure how to format this one, or how to deal with the external links. We really try to avoid long directories of external links, but in topics such as this they are sometime the 'point' of the article. Any suggestions for a template style? I'm also going to go ahead and include a "related" link to Hospitality Exchange since it may be of interest to folks looking for alternative accomidations. Majnoona 16:56, 26 February 2006 (EST)
- Note that this article was up on Wikitravel:Votes for deletion for nearly a month, so the redirect was done according to policy. Is there a significant difference between Home exchange and Hospitality exchange that warrants two separate articles? They seem similar enough topics that one article should suffice - the primary difference is whether or not someone is a guest in your house, or whether you borrow someone's house, right? -- Ryan 17:54, 26 February 2006 (EST)
- Apologies for not signing in and signing comments. Still smowehat new to Wiki. Again, I would argue not to delete or redirect Home Exchange to Hospitality Exchange. My family and I are seasoned home exchangers but are not at all interested in hospitality exchanges. These 2 travel alternatives are directed at different audiences. Even though on the surface they may seem similar they are very very different and appeal to different people. Other terms for Home Exchange (primarily used by North Americans) are House Swap or Home Swap (primarily used by people in the UK/Australia). It may make sense to have a redirect from House Swap or Home Swap to Home Exchange. Tony 20:00, 27 February 2006 (EST)
- Home exchange --I do not know enough about the practice to know whether it warrants an article for itself. Putting it up here for discussion --Ravikiran 01:35, 31 Jan 2006 (EST)
- Redirect to Hospitality exchange, unless there is some significant difference between the two. -- Ryan 00:49, 20 Feb 2006 (EST)
- This one reappeared after being redirected, so I'm putting it back here for discussion. -- Ryan 17:56, 26 February 2006 (EST)
- Sorry, I didn't see the vfd message on this page. I'd say "keep" -- home exchange is a popular alternative to hotels, especially for families on extended vacations. It's a very different crowd than house swappers. There are different tips. warnings, resources... in fact, the only thing they have in common is that they're travel topics ;-) If they're "the same" than so is Discount airlines in Europe and Tips for Hitchhiking . - Vote to keep. Home exchange is totally different than hospitality exchange and a great, inexpensive way to travel someplace, live like a local by staying in a home rather than a hotel and save a lot of money. Terry 0600 28 February 2006
[edit] External links
The external links section of this article needs to be removed per Wikitravel:External links. The links, if appropriate, should be re-worked into the article. In addition, this article could use some splitting up into sections, IMHO. -- Ryan 19:47, 3 March 2006 (EST)
