Talk:Germany/Euro

Something else, should we really include Euro discussion here? A link to a more central page (maybe something about the EU) would be a much better idea, or we will end up being very redundant as the same information applies to many countries. --nils 17:02, 4 Jan 2004 (CET)

It's redundant, but not very redundant. We generally include currency information at the country-page level -- see the country article template for details. The European Union, West African Monetary Union, and Central African Monetary Union present a bit of a challenge to this policy, but not terribly much. It's a slight hassle to have redundant info, but it does mean that you can print out Germany and stick it in your backpack and go there with all the information you need. --Evan 14:16, 5 Jan 2004 (EST)
Still we have to maintain correct and basically identical information in a dozen countries' entries - plus the general EU page anyway. Also don't forget that in some non-Eurozone countries, you can still pay with Euros. We really don't want to spread the same information half around the globe. Restricting generic Euro information to a very short paragraph would be better - and then to pay more attention to any special considerations for the country itself. Euro Information really should go into the EU page. The printing out argument is, well... not really a big one. If you can print out one page, you can print out two pages. If you don't read the article while you're still near a printer then that means you don't really prepare the voyage anyway and the whole point is moot ;-) I'd agree though that it isn't exactly a very high priority. --nils 9:20, 7 Jan 2004 (CET)
Yes, the redundancy is kind of a pain in the butt. I like the way you handled it here -- there's enough information on the Germany page that there's not a big hole in the middle of the article, but most of the details are on European Union. --Evan 15:39, 8 Jan 2004 (EST)
Thanks. I feel quite happy with it as well, I think it should be a good compromise. We probably ought to handle other countries similarily. :) --nils 22:50, 8 Jan 2004 (CET)
