Talk:Crete
From Wikitravel
Under =='See'== - # The eccentric culture of Crete in the traditional cafes (kafeneia). # - this needs some explanation - what is eccentric about the culture?
My dearest 210.50.143.21, I believe the offensive term you are looking is [1]. Take a look in the mirror and have a nice day! Jpatokal 00:01, 5 Aug 2005 (EDT)
[edit] Crete location
crete is not located in southern Aegean sea, but in Cretian sea (kritiko pelagos) which is south of Aegean and North of teh Libyan Sea
- Wikipedia has Crete at the southern end of Aegean sea. -- Tom Holland (xltel) 13:34, 15 Feb 2006 (EST)
Thats incorrect and funny, even the map they use locates Crete in the sea of Crete.. Stevepeterson 13:10, 16 Feb 2006 (EST)
I've chimed in by adding "in the Mediterranean Sea" for people who might not know where the other seas are (there are probably a lot of them!) I've also changed "favourite" to "favorite"; Wikitravel standard is the the English language pages should have American spellings. Sailsetter 12:10, 16 March 2008 (EDT)
[edit][add listing] Sleep
I took out the listing for Rethymno hostel, since it didn't give an address, any contact information, or a web page for it. If anyone wants to put it back, please include at least an address and/or location description. Sailsetter 16:39, 26 March 2008 (EDT)
[edit][add listing] Do
I've moved the listing for the Thalassocosmos Acquarium to the Heraklion page; since it's only a few miles out of Heraklion and not near any other major towns or attractions, travelers will no doubt go to it as a side trip out of Heraklion, so it belongs there. I've also rewritten it to remove touting, and I've removed the associated large picture of a fish in a tank, which could be anywhere in the world and thus isn't in compliance with the Wikitravel policy of having a minimum number of clearly relevant pictures. [edit][add listing] Sleep
I've removed the reference to beeinnet.com again. This listing is clearly not in compliance with the Wikitravel policy on External links, which prohibits linking to "Hotel or travel booking services / aggregators", which that site most certainly is. And it says right on the editing page, immediately below the box you have to type listing into:
"Wikitravel has strong guidelines on links to external web sites. Links to booking engines, hotel and restaurant aggregator sites, or other third-party sites will be deleted."
I was also going to remove the Kalliope Studios listing since it's already on the Chania page, but then I changed my mind and left it for the moment. I'm not sure what the policy is for arranging listings on a region with cities, like Crete -- should all the listings for a city go under that city and not on the region page, comparably to how they're arranged in huge-city/district pages, or what? Any comments? Sailsetter 10:29, 19 April 2008 (EDT)
And I removed the beeinnett.com yet again as well as the link to the aggegator site holiday2greece.com. Will the persons adding these please read the policies above, and if they think they don't apply to these sites, please explain why here. Otherwise I or others will just keep removing them whenever we notice them. Sailsetter
[edit] Prefectures
In line with the current redistricting of Greece into simpler regions (done after discussion) I propose to delete the "Prefectures" section from the Crete page and also to delete all the linked Prefecture pages. They don't add any information that isn't (or at least that shouldn't) be elsewhere and just needlessly complicate the structure. Sailsetter 11:47, 25 August 2008 (EDT)
- I've deleted the prefectures section. At some point the pages should be deleted too. Sailsetter 12:41, 12 September 2008 (EDT)
[edit] I did my best on drive, drink and food...
I did my best on drink and food.
I am a resident of Crete since born. I recently gathered some references on traveling and finally got the spherical point of view to add some info here.
no "Ashleighton ruth - veronica pennington" statue on North, South, East or West(!). (who on earth are they anyway?)
