Spiro is a town in the Kiamichi Country region of Oklahoma.

  • Spiro Mounds Archaeological Park 2½ miles east and 3½ miles north of Spiro. Take SH-9 east of Spiro to the W.D. Mayo Lock and Dam Road. There is a 140 acre archaeology park run by the Oklahoma Historical Society and open to the public. The Indians populated the area between 850 AD to 1450 AD and it was a major trading center. There are 12 burial mounds located on the site.
