Sovata (Hungarian Szováta) is a spa town in Szeklerland.

Located in a hilly area next to the Gurghiu mountains in eastern Transylvania, Sovata is a mid-size resort known for its salt lakes.

The resort is reached by frequent buses from the regional hub Târgu Mureş (one hour-one hour and half travel time), at least one bus from Cluj (three hours and half travel time) and Iaşi (five hours and half).

Sovata is located on a secondary railway with limited service: 4-5 trains daily from Blaj on the Bucharest-Brasov-Cluj mainline (three-four hours travel time). The railway is operated by the private company Regiotrans [1].
