Siegen is Peter Paul Rubens [1] birthplace. Oberes Schloss houses some of his paintings. The Schloss surprisingly has a fine exhibit of Siegen's mining heritage with an under tunnel.

Apart from several towns in eastern Germany, Siegen is renowned for its many male inhabitants sporting the mullet style hair cut.
