Shepparton is a city in Goulburn Valley, Victoria, Australia.

Shepparton lies in the Goulburn Valley, a major agricultural and food processing region termed the "Food Bowl of Australia". On the banks of the Goulburn River, Shepparton offers great weather, gourmet food and wine, superb shopping and many recreational and entertainment facilities.

Shepparton is a fantastic place to explore as a family. Run wild at the SPC Ardmona KidsTown Adventure Playground that features a miniature railway, giant slides, tree houses, a fruit bin maze, flying fox, swings and monkey bars. Enjoy a picnic by Victoria Park Lake, a community hub in the town s heart that attracts groups year-round. Visit the Aquamoves complex on the western edge of the lake, offering a state-of-the-art aquatic centre with pools, a waterslide, spas and sauna.

By car[edit]

Get around[edit]

The local bus service Shepptransit offers the following bus routes. If you look young, and don't have an obvious accent, they won't ask you for your concession card. 2 hour tickets are $1.10 and all day is $2.00. It ought to be advised to avoid eye contact with people on the bus as it could provoke aggression from your fellow commuters.

  • Parkside Gardens via the Boulevard
  • GOLF Drive/TAFE
  • Connolly Park
  • Archer St
  • South East
  • Market Place
  • Kialla
  • Aquamoves

  • SPC Ardmona Kidstown - A massive playground sponsored by SPC for children. There is a shop on premises that sells the produce from the company. In my experience many of the preserved fruits are disgusting and children will not consume them.
  • Aquamoves - The local swimming pool, only want heated indoor pool, and one heated spa.

Art galleries[edit]

  • Shepparton Art Museum - A sorry excuse for an art museum, the building is too small, the art is mediocre at best. Features a 50,000 dollar lifelike model of an old woman holding a baby. East Bank Centre, Shepparton VIC 3630
  • Gallery Kaiela 137-139 High St, Shepparton VIC 3630
  • Skate Park - There is a skatepark on the Shepparton Lake, mainly an attractant of the delinquent "youths"
  • MooovingArt - There are skattered pieces of "art" in Shepparton, just cows, a very poor excuse for as tourist attraction really.
  • Parks and Playgrounds - Camping in Shepparton is not personally advised due to the local homeless Aboriginal population taking up camp with a tent, a stereo system and a lot of alcohol, known for disturbing holidaymakers

  • Climb the Shepp Tower.  edit
  • Play some games or internet at Guf. Internet cafe. Speeds are 1-3MB/s. 6-8/hourly.  edit

  • Cash Converters, 358- 362 Wyndham St, Shepparton VIC 3630. For all your overpriced secondhand needs  edit

There is a disturbing lack of variety in food in Shepparton despite it's cultural and ethnic diversity. Ordinary restaurants offer a generic menu.

  • Middle eastern cuisine
  • Asian cuisine

  • Flannigans Irish Bar & The VIC Hotel on Wyndham St
  • Bullion Bar & Grill
  • Friars Cafe & Wine Bar

  • Rural Housing, 43 Wyndham St, Shepparton VIC 3630. There is an emergeny accomodation service for citizens of Australia or New Zealand  edit
  • The Carrington Hotel. The Carrington Hotel is probably the best option for accomodation as other places are less secure, harbour drug dealers and are way over priced. Facilities seem to be okay, there strong smell of chlorine in the water. It's better to buy your drinking water or food from outside the hotel.  edit

Stay safe[edit]

Shepparton is most commonly sold off as a small community with likeminded and kind individuals. This cannot be farther from the truth. Shepparton is a large city of about 90,000, youth unemployment, teenage pregnancy, and drug abuse, tax fraud (especially against aspiring backpackers) is staggeringly high nationally, and the highest in the township's state. Shepparton seems to be suffering from that type of en masse cultural incompetence towns experience when they go from some agricultural warehouse to suburban life. Small-town simple life that has been the historic culture gets gets displaced too soon creates disasterous consequences for a certain number of future generations. If you live in Shepparton it is probably not safe to go outside after dark, especially if you're a woman, there is a massive drug epidemic in the Northern region of Victoria, and it has affected Shepparton the worst. It is a common occurance to be offered drugs by either drug dealers or drug users as a social convention.

The rule of law has gone haywire in Shepparton. The Shepparton magistracy are lenient on serious crimes. It seems like there is no possibility of a jail sentence.

If please, avoid public housing areas, Aboriginal housing areas, etc.
