[edit] Get in

There are mini-bus services from Jianchuan bus station that take about one hour to reach Shaxi (¥8). It should also be possible to catch a mini-bus at the junction for Shaxi, 8km south of Jianchuan. Hitching should also be possible if not preferable!

  • Shibao Shan, (12km north of Shaxi on the road from Jianchuan and 11km south of the Dali-Jianchuan road). A fantastic nature reserve and religious site that was one of the first to be officially protected by China in 1982. There are numerous temples and grottoes as well as some fantastic views and walks amongst the old forests. The Stone Bell Temple with its famous carvings appears to be closed during winter. The entrance fee is ¥30, apparently there is no discount for students.  edit

Allen lived in Holland for years and chose to return to what many consider to be one of Yunnan's remaining off-the-beaten track treasures. Visiting Allen's cafe is a must for visitors to Shaxi.  edit
