• Gulistan Fortress, (Hike North from Shavalan Motel over the hill). The ruins of this historic sight are a short hike out of Shamakhi proper. Originallly constructed in the 8th-9th centuries and rebuiilt in the 12th-13th centuries. Currently a second archeological excavation is underway at Gulistan (groundbreaking July 13th, 2011).  edit

• Shavalan Motel, (3km West along the main road from Shamakhi Bus station). This is a stop on the main road to Baku. A full restaurant is available with moderately priced food. 10 AZB for a bed, 20 AZN for a room.  edit

Buses headed fro Baku will call here for a few moments, if there are free seats they can be purchased for 4 AZB. Otherwise many private taxis surround the station offering faster transport for a range of proces. Usually a seat can be purchased for 5 AZB if you negotiate.
