Selby is a market town in North Yorkshire.It is located on the River Ouse, 12 miles south of York.

Selby can be accessed through the train station,which takes in trains from all around Yorkshire.

Get around[edit]

The main way to get around in selby is by car, but as the town is quite small you can walk around easily.

  • Visit interior of Selby Abbey. A Benedictine church dedicated in 1069. The First King of England was born there. See the stained glass window containing the Washington family coat of arms, which is believed to be the inspiration for the American Stars and Stripes Flag.
  • Cross the former Wooden Toll bridge, now repaired and reconstructed and mostly metal, but still has wood/tarmac surface. There used to be a 4p Toll to cross the river Ouse, but now you can cross for free.

In selby there are a variety of different restaurants and takeways offering a variety of different cuisenes.capri is a small italian restaurant near selby abbey,and there food is arguably the best in selby.

There are a variety of different pubs in selby including the Loughborough arms which offers friendly service and a variety of different beers and wines.

The Loughborough arms also offers a bab and some very comfy beds.
