Selangor is the wealthiest, most urbanized and, with 4.1 million people, the most populous of Malaysia's states. It is centred around the urban sprawl of the Klang Valley, surrounding but not including the capital Kuala Lumpur and the capital-to-be Putrajaya.

Malay is the national language of Malaysia, but the usage of English is widespread. Most locals are bilingual and understand smatterings of other languages thanks to racial diversity synonymous of Malaysia.

Several cases of snatch thefts have been reported, some including deaths so be careful with your belongings. Make sure to put handbags away from open car windows and try to have at least one companion, even for males as criminal cases have been on increase of late.
