Schulenburg is a city in Fayette County in the Hill Country of Texas. It bills itself as halfway to everywhere, since it's halfway between Houston and San Antonio on I-10 and halfway from Austin to Victoria north-south.

• Oakridge Smokehouse, ☎ +1-979-743-3372 (toll free: +1-800-320-5766), [1]. 5:30AM – 9:00PM every day. The Oakridge reflects Schulenburg's dual German-Texan heritage. The sign out front is written in crooked hillbilly script with the sub-title, "COME AS U R AND BRING MA N' PA!" but on a nearby billboard is a content-looking Bavarian with liederhosen and a bottlebrush mustache. Inside is a buffet with fried chicken, barbecued ribs, sauerbraten and various wurst; the menu also has local German favorites alongside catfish and hushpuppies. A nice general store with jerky by the pound and German pastries rounds out the fun. $8 (buffet or entree).  edit
