Sarlat-la-Canéda is a city in Dordogne, Southwestern France.


Sarlat is the capital of Périgord Noir. Périgord is the historical area that consists mostly of the present-day département of Dordogne.

Get in[edit]

By train[edit]

Sarlat is the end of the train line that connects with Bordeaux in west.

It is possible to get an express from Paris to Souillac from where trains are usually met by a coach which continues to Sarlat. There is no Car Rental at Souillac.the better option for Car Rental is at the previous station Brive la Gaillard then one hours drive to Sarlat

By bus[edit]

TransPérigord connects Sarlat with Souillac and Périgueux.

Get around[edit]

The whole of Sarlat can be visited by foot, though there is a local bus that runs from Sarlat's northern and southern limits.
