Santa Rosa de Cabal
Santa Rosa de Cabal is a town and municipality in the department of Risaralda, west-central Colombia, on the western slopes of the Andean Cordillera Central. It is a commercial and manufacturing centre for the fertile agricultural and pastoral hinterland. Silkworms are raised in the vicinity, and there are silver, gold, and mercury mines nearby.
The town is a great base for making the most of the surrounding lush countryside- activities include trekking, cycling, exploring waterfalls or visiting thermal baths.
A thermal pool called "Termales" is open for visitors.
A must see is the gurning man on Called 15 who will transfix you with his elastic face in return for a small donation.
Don't miss the town's centre piece and top attraction, the bakery dog having it's balls licked by a smaller local poodle whilst grimacing and barring it's teeth angrily. Enjoy this traditional scene whilst enjoying the bakers speciality, a Tate nullifying arepa, yum.
Hostel provides accommodation for backpackers, in dorms and prívate rooms, offering complementary services like: security lockers, laundry service, wi-fi, hot water all day, breakfast, entertainment room, kitchen, sauna and Jacuzzi. Very passionate and friendly staff who want to help you discover the charms of the town and show you nightlife with the locals. Availability for eco-tourist guides to Thermal Waters, mountain trecking, “Chaquiro mines”, “Don Lolo” waterfall, Otun Lake access and ice mountain National Park. Recommended.
