Saint Emilion

From Wikitravel

Jump to: navigation, search

Saint Emilion is a medieval town in Gironde department of France's Aquitaine region.

Located 35 km north-est of Bordeaux, Saint Emilion stands magnificently on top of the hill overlooking the Dordogne valley. The town is an incredible open-air museum with medieval ambience and its bars, restaurants, wine shops, etc. The most surprising remains are doubtless its underground monuments: a unique monilithic church, more than 70 hectares of underground quarries.
