Sagar is a university city in Madhya Pradesh.

The city was established as the capital of Maratha people in 1735 and later was an important site during British rule. Many relics remain from these periods, such a number of forts. There are also many temples, lakes and waterfalls in the vicinity, which has helped establish the city as an important site on the Indian tourist circuit.

The city is well connected to other major cities of the country by railway, airways and roadways network. Bhopal (State Capital) is 187 km with a quality Highway built recently. Bina (Railway Junction) is also only 75km by road and is well connected with all Indian Major Cities.

Sagar is a small city and it is easy to get around locally within the city by Auto Rickshaw and taxi's. Auto is the preferred means of commutation and you can get a alot everywhere. Charges are very cheap but they allows other passengers as well so be clear while hiring them. Else you have option in form of Taxi (Not the regular cabs but kind of Open Minibus) which are also available at regular interval.

Sagar is called the lake city and is thus sorround by beautiful Lakha Banjara Lake. The city also offers small cultural shops, boating trips, village expeditions etc.

The city is also surrounded by a beautiful hilly region and there are some very good places to see in and around the city like - Rahatgarh Waterfalls, Garhphra Temples, Khimlasa Forts etc.
There is a new tourist attraction in Sagar - Varun Smriti Udhyaan [2]. It is situated 12 km off Jabalpur Road is a exotic resort. It provides a state of art Water Park, Outing activities like picnic, outdoor sports facility for Childrens, Great Landscape with few very rare varieties of Flower and Fruits.

In the region, tourists can take boating trips of the city in the beautiful lakes. Round the year there are cultural shopping and food festivals organised. The region also gives a good opportunity to take a loot at the village life of near-by areas.

University of Sagar MP 470003 (campus - gour nagar, civil lines) [3], is the most prestigious and oldest university of the region. The university has a rating of 4 star out of 5 by university grants commission. The campus is one of the most attractive in the state.

- Sagar not only has a good range of shops with well known high street outlets but also small independent shops selling cultural handmade handicrafts items. The area is well known for its small antique shops and for those who are into hand made cloths.
- Don't forget to buy Chironji Ki Barfi for your relatives, Sagar's favourite sweet. It is available on many shops but the original one for which this became famous was available on Choudhary Misthaan Bhandar,Teen Batti Katra Bazar.
