Located in the East Zone of the city, the region of Tatuapé, Penha and Anália Franco is a rich region of the city, which was formerly settled by italians and spaniards. The region of Tatuapé was famous in the past because the grape farms, nowadays turned in streets. Currently this region is a huge residential middle-to-upper income region and also a commercial center, with lots of pubs, restaurants, supermarkets, shopping malls and both high-class and popular commerce. The neighbouhroods Tatuapé and Anália Franco are regarded as the home for the "newly rich" paulistanos, while Penha is a centre of popular commerce, but worthy of note due to the imponent Basílica Nossa Senhora da Penha, one of the oldest and largest churches of São Paulo.
