Rupea is a town in Brasov. It was settled and founded by germans in the 12th century. They built a remarkable fortress with three rings. Unfortunately the fortress is mostly a ruin now, but restoration will start in autumn 2008.

Rupea is on the mainroad E60 that links Brasov to Sighisoara, 70km from Brasov and 50km from Sighisoara.

  • The german fortress, is located on the hill. It is a very old fortress dating from the 14th century. The fortress has been extended in the 18th century. Entrance fee: regular 4 lei, student 1 leu.
  • The german church, built in the 14th century.
  • The village Viscri, only 11km away. It is an old traditional village with a fortified church.
  • Visit famous Sighisoara, the only inhbaited fortress in Europe.
  • The ruins of Saschiz, 20km before Sighisoara.
