Reseda grew into a prominent town after World War II when many of the existing ranches and orange groves were converted to housing for the returning soldiers. Today the population hovers around 80,000.
The town has been featured in several movies and songs, most notably 1984's Karate Kid as the home of the title character. Tom Petty's hit Free Fallin also features the town in the lyric "It's a long day livin' in Reseda. There's a freeway runnin' through the yard".
Reseda is located a few miles northwest of the intersection of US-101 and I-405.
"Las Fuentes" a very well liked and decorated Mexican food restaurant that also has beer and wine margaritas for sale. It has been in the neighborhood for decades and most people would say its the best Mexican food in the Valley. The Chicken Flautas is the most popular item, but everything is pretty good. They have a place they also own nearby called "Melodies" which is less popular, but easier and faster to get a similar meal. Meals from about $6 - $9, chips are $1.
"Salsa N Beer" - the competition to Las Fuentes, technically in Van Nuys, but not more than a stones throw from the city of Reseda. They are more focused on drinking, but the food is still good. Expect long lines and waiting times to get your food but it shouldnt be a problem if you are not in a rush and enjoying some beer. They also give chips (free) and salsa with bean dip. A good tip is to order sour cream and then mix it with the Hot green salsa from the salsa bar and use that as dip for the chips.
