Reckong Peo

From Wikitravel

Reckong Peo is the capital of the Kinnaur district in India.

Get in[edit]

Most people come by bus via Rampur, although also accessible via Kaza. The bus journey from Rampur to Reckong Peo has to be one of the most dramatic in the world, definitely not for the faint hearted. As of summer 2015, the cost from Rampur to Reckong Peo was 178INR.

In summer the night busses from Shimla are hopelessly overcrowded; so, very early morning busses are more spacious. Direct busses are not necessary; in fact, in summer it's better to take anything to Rampur, and go from there. The few semi-deluxe busses start in Chandigarh, and are generally full in summer before they reach Shimla.

Centrally located Little Chef (littlechefkinnaur.com) restaurant is the one recommended Western style eatery in Reckong Peo. Apparently Snow View also has a restaurant. Don't be fooled by the signage, Ridang does not have a restaurant or bar as of summer 2015.

Drink[edit][add listing]

Due to the mild climate, apple orchards are a common sight throughout the Kinnaur region, perhaps due to the historical British influence. In Reckong Peo, local, handmade apple cider is the thing to do.

Sleep[edit][add listing]

Most tourists prefer to stay in nearby, picturesque Kalpa.

The list of registered hotels in Reckong Peo, supplied by the local HPTDC office, includes:
