Qibao ancient town (七宝古镇 Qībǎo gǔ zhèn), is an ancient town in Shanghai municipality about 15km south of Shanghai city.

Qibao is a small town about two square kilometers in size which is crossed by two canals. Around the canals, a large number of traditional houses, shops and restaurants are found. Recently tourism has been actively encouraged and it makes a good daytrip from Shanghai city. Although Qibao can be touristy, prices are comparatively cheap.

The city used to be a closed area and you had to buy a ticket (10,- Yuan), which included ten special copper coins which you could either keep as memory or spend at special shops inside the city. Nowadays the entrance to the city and the "Qibao Old Street" is free of charge.

Subway: Use subway line 9 to reach Qibao station (七宝镇),take exit 2 out of the station, walk towards the road junction and take a left turn.The entrance to Qibao city is a huge gate,hard to miss
Bus: line 87, 91, 92 or 911.

The city is very small and you can conveniently walk everywhere.

The overall impression is what makes Qibao a good location, rather than individual hotspots. However, you might want to check out the many bridges, the restaurant streets and the many shops. On the back of your ticket, there is a map of Qibao.
