Putian

Putian [1] is a city in Fujian Province in China, between Fuzhou and Quanzhou.

There is no airport flying in to Putian so you must fly in from Fuzhou and take a 1 1/2 hour car drive into Putian, or Xiamen and take a 2 hour car drive into Putian.

  • Temple of Mazu, Goddess of the Sea. The original temple of this Goddess of the Sea is on Meizhou island in Putian. Worldwide, she is reported to have 3,000 temples and over 100 million worshippers, mainly fishermen and sailors. There are at least two Mazu temples in San Francisco's Chinatown. Her annual festival, in spring, brings over 100,000 visitors to the temple, including many from Taiwan and Southeast Asia.  edit

Putian has a Wanda plaza so there are quite a few shopping choice there. There is also a Walmart and Carrefour in the city as well.

The local beer is Sedrin beer with a brewery located in Putian. Sedrin light is blue labeled and about 2.5 percent. Regular Sedrin is only 3.0 percent. Sedrin is a sponsor of the NBA here in China!

Two good Western hotels are the Depot and the new Hilton. There are also some natural hotspring hotels available in Putian.
