Putian is a city in Fujian, between Fuzhou and Quanzhou.

The original temple of Mazu, Goddess of the Sea, is on Meizhou island in Putian. Worldwide, she is reported [1] to have 3,000 temples and over 100 million worshippers. There are at least two in San Francisco's Chinatown. Her annual festival, in spring, brings many visitors to the temple, including abou 100,00 from Taiwan.
