Soda Marcell: A local casual restaurant located on the road coming into Potrero from Flamingo, on the left hand side. Open for breakfast and lunch, and occasionally for private groups for dinner. Serves authentic Costa Rican food (gallo pinto, maduros, arroz con pollo, casados, and more, as well as excellent fruit smoothies) at very reasonable prices. Cash and credit card are accepted.

Find a local family and arrange a homestay. Most of the families in Potrero do homestays for Spanish students who study at CPI in Flamingo, so they are setup for this and are very welcoming.
Abriendo Mentes is a US 501(c)3 non profit organization with an office and classroom space in Playa Potrero. The organization is primarily dedicated to teaching English and technology skills to youth and adults in the area. Additional activities are provided weekly for children, including art, sports, dance, and music activities. Another focus of Abriendo Mentes is community engagement, which includes a women's microenterprise initiative called Mujeres Activas de Potrero (MAP). MAP consists of a group of local women who sew handbags, yoga bags, wristlets, and do other sewing repairs or custom-made products. They sell their wares in The Shop, in the office next to Abriendo Mentes. Volunteer and internship opportunities are available year round; minimum commitment is usually 3 months.
Buses leave from the soccer field every couple of hours.
