The Plymouth Barbican is the oldest part of Plymouth, England. The main street is called New Street but used to be called Rag Street. This is the historic heart of Plymouth with lots of art galleries, restaurants, shops and holiday homes.

[edit] Get in and around

  • Foot Easily accessible and signposted from around the center of the city; the barbican is about 1km from the center of the town
  • Bus Service 25 from the railway station runs though the Barbican and the West Hoe, there isn't much point using it from the town, but from the station it could be worthwhile.
  • Bike Easily accessible by bike, just follow the signposts, are some limited place to tie up bikes too.
  • the Barbican isn't very big, so can be easily walked around, also the walk to the Hoe is quite nice and provides some attractive views over Plymouth Sound

Mayflower Steps
  • Plymouth Gin Distillery famed for its smoothness the distillery is open every day, the distillery is thought to be the last place where the Pilgrim Fathers stayed before leaving for America. It is known for having good displays - it can be enjoyed by people who don't drink alcohol; you of course get to taste the gin produced there too. Surprisingly popular with families
  • Mayflower Steps where the aforementioned travelers left for their intercontinental journey
  • The National Marine Aquarium [1] is Britain's foremost aquarium and the deepest in Europe.
  • boat trip around Plymouth Sound, the dockyards and up the river Plym
  • Gently inserted post war reconstruction
