Northern Italy is in Italy. It includes the Italian regions of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, the Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige, Lombardy, Piedmont, Valle d'Aosta, and Liguria. Some also include Emilia-Romagna, although the majority of Emilia-Romagna is on the Italian peninsula, which is generally considered to be central Italy.

Italian is the First language in Italy,english is also widely known, French is also a lesser known language throughout the border and alps. German is also widely spoken in the Südtirol/Alto-Adige region.

Stores often have stalls outside of their shops so always carry your receipt around. Bag robbing isn't a high risk but if you've drawn attention to yourself with a mobile phone, digital camera, etc it could be robbed from your bag as soon as you turn your back.
