Trans Pennine Express runs trains from the North East and Leeds to Manchester and Liverpool.
[edit] Get around
[edit] By plane
The North West is too small an area to have internal flights.
[edit] By car
The North West is a small area and is easy to get around by car. For instance it takes no more than 2 hours to drive across the region from North to South or East to West. There is a dense network of motorways and dual carriageway roads. However as the area is mostly densely populated traffic congestion is a problem, particularly from around 7 to 10 am and 4 to 7 pm Monday to Friday, though roadworks and accidents can cause problems at any time.
[edit] By bus
Bus services are useful in rural areas where trains do not run, and for short journeys. They are cheap especially if "day tickets" are bought which allow travel all day in an area. Bus travel can be slow owing to frequent stops and traffic congestion. Long distance coach services are infrequent in the North West apart from on the Liverpool-Manchester-Leeds route.
[edit] By train
Most of the North West is well served by rail with frequent services on most routes. Apart from on the main West Coast route trains are not particularly fast but are faster than the equivalent bus services and also avoid traffic congestion problems.
