The New York Central Recreational Trail is a recreational trail that goes between the towns of Embrun and Russell in Ontario, Canada.

[edit] Understand

The New York Central Recreational Trail (often called "The Bike path" by the locals, or just the New York Central Trail) was made in the late 1970s when the municipality bought out the old rail bed of the New York Central Railroad's New York to Ottawa line.

The trail starts in Embrun and continues to Russell. The trail is often used by the locals, particularly in Embrun, so do not be surprised if you pass by different people. One of the reasons why the trail is so popular among the locals is that the trail is surrounded by tall trees which provide shade in the summer.

[edit] Prepare

There is not much to prepare for to go on this trail. Perhaps the only thing to be prepared for is to remember to bring insect repellent, even during the day time. The trail is plagued by insects, and one can get bitten to the point of intolerance at dawn or dusk. While insects are more tolerable during the day, they are still abundant.
